Thursday morning saw dozens of vehicles crash on an icy stretch in northwest Wisconsin.
Cars and semitrailers, including one that caught on fire, were left in tangled piles near Interstate 94 in Jackson County in Wisconsin.
According to a joint news release by the Wisconsin State Patrol (Wisconsin Department of Transportation), no one was hurt or killed.
Many reports of vehicles being jack-knifed, crashed, and other incidents were reported to emergency crews. Local media reported that the pileup involved more than 100 vehicles.
The crashes included one at approximately 5:45 AM CST. A multi-vehicle accident near mile marker 95 in Jackson County set a semi on a fire in the median and left two passenger cars underneath.
A portion of the highway was still closed in both directions as traffic was being diverted.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office there were two crashes on the east and westbound side.
“There is an accident involving many vehicles in both directions Northfield to Osseo or Osseo (to Northfield),” the sheriff’s department posted to Facebook on Thursday morning. “Emergency vehicles should be able get to the scene.”
At 8:40 AM CST, all roads in the county were iced and slippery. Residents were asked not to go.
