Southeast winter storm leaves hundreds of thousands without power

Hundreds of thousands of people were left without power by a winter storm that swept through the Southeastern United States.

According to PowerOutage.us, more than 200,000 power outages were reported in the Southeast as a result the winter storm. 

North Carolina Governor. Roy Cooper, North Carolina Governor, stated that more 41,000 homes were without power at noon during a press conference. He also stated that shelters are available in the state for people who lack heat or power.

Cooper claimed that a small section of Interstate 95, North Carolina, was closed by power lines that were low and covered in ice.

The roads are iced in the central and western parts of the state, according to J. Eric Boyette (North Carolina Transportation Secretary).

Some North Carolina counties saw 8-12 inches of snow. Ice is causing problems in the central part of the state.

The Franklin Sheriff’s Office of Williamson County in Tennessee stated that there are many reports of abandoned cars and vehicles on the snow-covered roads.
